ANNUAL SALARY: $8,000
GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Director of Children’s Ministries will have responsibility for the development and implementation of vision, strategy and logistical elements for all programs and activities related to the Children’s Ministry of St. Andrew United Methodist Church (K3- 5th grade).
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP AND SUPERVISION;
The Director of Children’s Ministries (DCM) reports to the Sr. Pastor, in cooperation with the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) who provide an annual evaluation of the DCM’s performance.The DCM will be responsible and subject to United Methodist polity and doctrine, informed by the United Methodist Guidelines for Children’s Ministries, local church policy as determined by the Charge Conference, Senior Pastor, and SPRC. Attendance at the following meetings is expected: Weekly Staff Meetings, and Children’s Council. The DCM is required to have passed a criminal background check and completed Safe Sanctuaries training. Completion of CPR training is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS AND APTITUDES:
- Commitment to Christ and an understanding of the Christian faith as expressed through the United Methodist Church
- Love for and experience in working with children of all ages (Education degree or background optional but preferred)
- Ability to create lesson plans and offer teachings at a child’s level of understanding
- Ability to coordinate, collaborate and communicate effectively
- Ability to work with a diverse community
- Ability to develop and implement short-term and long-term plans
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps (Email, Calendar, Drive, etc.)
THE PRIMARY TASK:
There shall be a comprehensive approach to the development and implementation of the Children’s Ministry at all levels in the connectional system of the United Methodist Church and all ministry areas of the local church.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinating with the Sr. Pastor and the Children’s Council in the development and planning of the Children’s Ministry.
- Participating in the rotation for the Children’s Minute during Sunday morning worship.
- Preparing and implementing Sunday School and Children’s Church on Sunday mornings. Preparing and implementing the Kingdom Kids program on Wednesday evenings during the school year. All activities and lessons for both should be provided in advance to teachers and crafts should be planned and purchased in advance.
- Preparing a Children’s Ministry calendar on a quarterly basis.
- Communicating with the children’s parents at least monthly. Social media notices of children’s activities shall be posted on a weekly basis. If children are absent, communication should be made with the child and parents to let them know they were missed.
- Acquiring written parental permission for use of photos taken during children’s activities.
- Recruiting, educating and training volunteers (Safe Sanctuaries Training, CPR, First Aid, etc.).
- Recruiting and outreach to the community to grow the Children’s Ministry.
- Conducting a “special activity” on at least a quarterly basis. (Examples: bowling, movies, etc) and posting a sign-up sheet for these activities well in advance.
- Planning and coordinating a fund raising activity at least on an annual basis.
- Taking pictures at children’s events and posting them on the SAUMC Facebook page, bulletin boards and sending letters home with the children that include pictures, in conjunction with the church’s Social Media Coordinator.
- Planning and directing Vacation Bible School
- Communicating with the church offices to ensure children’s activities are listed in weekly and monthly bulletins.
